Lyddington Village
Lyddington lies on the northern edge of the valley of the River Welland, where a stream, the Hlyde, from which lyddington takes its name, forms a tributary valley.
Lyddington Church of St Andrews dates back to the 14th C. It has some unusual features of interest. In the chancel walls are six acoustic jars set in the wall thought to amplify the priests voice. We have Bell Ringing practice on Thursday evening which can be heard from our garden with a glass in hand!
Our Church Clock is still wound by hand by volunteers from the village. We have a village water pump opposite the pub still used by residents when we have a drought. In the 1930s the bus stop used to be a blacksmiths shop. The 13C village cross on the green was removed in 1837 after damage in a drunken brawl! The lower part was found in a builders yard in 1930 and re-erected with a tin containing artefacts of the time, buried beneath it.
